*PORTLAND/SAN JOSE BOOKSIGNING WRAPUP/DEAD BODY ON ROAD DRAMA
whoa!! it's been quite a ride as far as this perpetual motion roadshow book tour is going. a few days ago, we did an event at reading frenzy in downtown portland. the place was tiny, so we easily filled it up and shannon wheeler opened the show with some hilarious stuff from his "too much coffee man" magazine. special guests in the house were david walker ("bad azz mofo"), shawn granton ("tfr industries") and top shelf publisher brett warnock.

on our way back to the bay area, just off the i-5, we found a dead body on the on-ramp just before grant's pass...but it wasn't a dead body..it was some drunk guy passed out in the middle of the road!! look for a comic about it soon...

then came san jose...

first off, let me say that my band, the marginal prophets HAS NEVER HAD A DECENT SHOW IN SAN JOSE...so far with this booktour, we've had a good show, then something bad happened, then a good show, then something bad happened...then a good show, so we were due for another bad experience. my expectations were so low that if two people showed up, and they both stayed the whole time, then my expectations would've been met. OH, WAS I WRONG!!

the space, anno domini, is this really cool warehouse gallery spot near the hp pavilion, where the s.j. sharks hockey team plays..it's run by this really great couple and they have fab events all the time. the place packed out with the biggest crowd on the tour, and we definitely did our best show. and when we were done, EVERYBODY BOUGHT A TON O' MY SCHEISSE!! folks were buying all four books and all three eMPee cds! it was crazy!! i will never say a bad thing about san jose again...

go check out anno domini!

*ABOUT THE PRINCE STRIP:
there was so much more i could write, but couldn't fit in...including this guy named greg i used to work with..he was this prince freak who was on top of everything prince did...this was before the internet, mind you..

cheers!

*SEATTLE SHOW WRAP-UP/CANADIAN DRAMA!!
the seattle slideshow/signing at confounded books was BRILLIANT!! tons o' folks showed up (including my official fanboy robert gidley!!)..my "evil" twin sis opened with an appropriate introduction about my smalll penis.. jennifer daydreamer did a short but sweet special opening reading... thanks to brad at confounded books for making us all feel like rockstars!!

then came canada...

so much drama!! we got stopped at the border by this hard-ass border patrol lady that would not let up!! she told us to step out of the vehicle and go to separate holding stations. she searched the car and pronounced that i could not be let into the country because i had merchandise for sale. i said they were for promotional purposes and that i'd be giving them away for free, but to no avail. we were sent back to the states...

then the u.s. border patrol weren't gonna let in my canadian comrades!! THEY stopped us and had us get out the car and we had to go through it with them. it was ugly folks...real ugly.

in the end, they finally let us back into the states and we cowered back to seattle with our tails between our legs. went back to my "evil" twin sister's and ate greek food and drank tequila shots.

portland tomorrow with shannon wheeler. we're due for a good show...

*SAN FRANCISCO SHOW WRAP-UP/ASHLAND DRAMA
this is the first of several updates concerning my west-coast book tour..

last night's s.f. show went swell..jello biafra showed up but was gone by the time i went on. and the vcr didn't work so i couldn't play the german/k chronicles movie. but it still was a great event.

i'm currently writing this in evo's cafe where we were supposed have tonite's event. turns out they close at 4pm and the promoter said she received no info about our event. i sent posters two weeks ago!!

anyway..the owner was apologetic and way cool and hooked us up with another venue that's having an open mic tonite. so..if anyone is going, head over to JAZZBO'S at the a street marketplace near the train tracks.

talk to you tomorra!!

*letter of the week!!

got this missive all the way from down south:

Hello!

Don't know if you were aware of it, but Fear Factor, the TV show, it's shot in
Argentina --and that's where I'm writing you from. I printed an old strip of
yours about Fear Factor, gave it to a friend that works there, and I've been
told that the producer (or someone equally important) now has it proudly
posted in his (or her) office.

Small world, huh?

Congrats on your strip. Couple of weeks ago I avoided work and read all the
Salon archive of the K Chronicles instead. Excellent! :-)

just another one of those emails everyone sends..but this one ain't bad..

Here is an idea that may help, you be the judge! It is currently $1.97 for regular unleaded in my town ($2.09 in Lompoc as of 2/23//04). Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices; if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.
