*ABOUT THIS WEEK’S MURDERBALL STRIP..

Yeah, it was an honor to run into those dudes at the Denver airport. Unfortunately, the camera I took the pics with was in a bag where some liquid was spilled..I haven’t attempted to develop the pics, but I’m sure they’re spoiled.

The good thing is that Mark Zupan pulled out his digital camera and took one, too. He said he’d email it to me after they got back from their tournament. Nice!!

Oh, and if you haven’t seen it. Rent “Murderball”. It’s good.

*E-MISSIVE FROM K CHRONICLES READER IN NEW ORLEANS..

hey man,

hope you got back to yer cozy san francisco all right. It was
fun meeting you (by the way, the red beans got SO MUCH BETTER the
older they got – the beans totally creamed out and got all thick, and
it almost came down to a fist fight between E. and I over who got
to eat the last bowl), feedin’ you, world cuppin’ it with you, and
showing you around St. Bernard and the 9th Ward. Thanks so much for
following through on my invitation.

The missus and I are leaving for ALASKA tomorrow morning. If I come
across any human skulls that look vaguely Treadwellian during our
journey, I’ll be sure to send them your way. More likely, we’ll be
eaten by bears ourselves.

How about that guy… sure, some things should have never been caught
on camera (“you’re such a big bear! Yes you are! You’re such a big
bear!”), but I shudder to think the things they’d find if I had a
camera on me for all of my waking moments. At least he found adventure
and a sense of purpose for himself, which most people never come close
to. It’s friggin unbelievable that he survived as long as he did. Yes,
I think he anthropomorphized the bears to an extreme extent, but he
understood their intentions, personalities, and “culture”, I guess you
could call it. The bear that killed him, he knew it was the most
dangerous and desperate one out there. But he survived for so long
among them. He lived as long as most bears do in the wild. The
tragedy is the woman he was with; I wish we knew more about her
story.

I’ve been keeping up with the world cup since that game we watched.
Poor Germany, losing like that to Italy in the last two minutes of
overtime. How’s the wifey taking it? My condolences.

take care, and best of luck,

j.

(J. done hooked me up with some serious red beans and rice [which was delicious right from the start]..
Turns out his Mama had an award-winning recipe..)
